Kichri with Massour Dal
I just made this recipe that I found through another newsletter that I receive (from the website www.eatthispoem.com), and it's so good! It's essentially lentils cooked with rice and some spices. To look at the recipe, it doesn't look like it would be up to much, but it's one of those things where the end result is greater than the sum of its parts. It turns out really well following the recipe, unlike some recipes where the thing isn't cooked enough in the end. It's very tasty and easy, so I thought someone else might like to try it too...

That sounds and looks good, I'll have to give it a go ome of these nights! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, it's easy...but you have to soak the rice and lentils for one hour, so it's not a quickie, but it doesn't take a lot of work to put together.
ReplyDeleteOh well that's not too bad, probably worth the wait.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's good if you feel like something substantial :).
ReplyDeleteIt looks good, I am not very familiar with the flavors used, what would you say it tastes like?
ReplyDeleteHmm hard to describe really if you haven't had Indian food before, but if you've ever had spiced rice in an Indian restaurant, I'd say that's the closest thing. It's mild, not strong flavours at all in this dish - sort of buttery, aromatic...kind of warm or something, slightly oniony, but very mild as there's not a lot of onion in it. I used shallots in mine too, because I like the flavour of them better than onions.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like it would be good. I am not that familiar with Indian food, but we are going to try to broaden our horizon when it comes to food. Everything is getting old tasting and we need to have more variety.
ReplyDeleteYes, I know what you mean. Well, this would be a good one to start with as it's mild, but still has the taste of the spices used. And it's nutritious too with the lentils.
